Tilray celebrated its grand opening today and marked the occasion by shipping its first order of medical cannabis to a patient. The grand opening ceremony was held at the federally licensed Nanaimo, British Columbia facility.
After a First Nations drum troupe opened the ceremony, Tilray CEO Brendan Kennedy welcomed everyone to the site and introduced Maria, Tilray's first patient. Maria is a former Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer who was injured in the line of duty. She recently began using cannabis as a treatment, replacing pharmaceuticals such as morphine.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Brendan and his wife Maria cut the ribbon outside the doors of the Tilray office. After enjoying a locally-sourced lunch, guests were invited to tour the facility with Brendan.
