“It’s entirely possible that some of the leading companies and brands in the industry ten years down the road will be Canadian," Kennedy told U.S. News journalist Randi Druzin, who writes that Canada's medical cannabis industry may grow "twentyfold" in the next five years. The federal government of Canada plans to legalize and regulate cannabis for adult use within the next year, which has led many to speculate favorably on the industry's growth potential.
Druzin notes that new attitudes and research regarding the efficacy of medical cannabis have already boosted the industry. She writes: "In March, 53,649 patients were registered to use medical marijuana in Canada, a 190 percent increase from the year before. By the end of July, that number had jumped to 82,217."
“The eyes of the world are on Canada," Privateer's Kennedy added, speaking of the upcoming country's plans for federal legalization. "It will be fascinating to see how this plays out.”
