Mexico Moves To Legalize Medical Cannabis

A decree issued by Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto today confirmed that Mexico has legalized cannabis for medicinal use after overwhelming support from Mexico’s Lower House of Congress.

The medical cannabis bill sailed through the Senate in December 2016, and Mexico’s Lower House passed the bill with a 347-7 vote in April. Today's new decree specifies that the Ministry of Health will be tasked with drafting and implementing the regulations of “public policies regulating the medicinal use of pharmacological derivatives of cannabis...as well as how to regulate the research and national production of them.”
